The short version: this site sets no cookies for visitors, runs no ads, counts visits without tracking anyone, and doesn’t sell or share anything about you.
What happens when you visit
Our web host, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to run and protect the site. Its security system may briefly check your browser before a page loads. We don’t use those logs to track or profile anyone.
We don’t set cookies unless you log in to the site’s admin area, which only the site’s editors do.
Visitor counts
We count visits with GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-friendly counter, so we can see which pages help people. It records the page you visited, the site that sent you, your browser and operating system, screen width, language and country. It doesn’t store your IP address or put anything in your browser: no cookies, no local storage. To count unique visits without identifying anyone, it keeps a random ID in memory for up to eight hours, then discards it. We see only totals, like “40 visits to the label decoder today.” Details are in GoatCounter’s privacy policy. Most ad blockers block it, and that’s fine with us.
The label decoder
Ingredient lists you paste or photograph are checked in your browser and never sent to us. Your settings (product type and what you care about) are saved only in your browser. If you look a product up by barcode, your browser asks Open Beauty Facts for it, and if they don’t have it, Open Products Facts. These are free open databases. The request contains only the barcode number, but like any web request it also reaches them with your IP address and basic browser details. No cookies are sent. A “share link” keeps the ingredient list (and the product type you picked) in the link itself, after the # sign, which browsers don’t send to our server.
Email and Discord
If you email admin@ihateperfume.com, we use your address only to reply. Our Discord community runs on Discord, and Discord’s own privacy policy applies there.
Email updates
If you sign up on our subscribe page, we collect only your email address. It’s stored by Hostinger Reach, the email service run by our web host, and used only to email you when we launch a new tool, campaign or other big update. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time by emailing admin@ihateperfume.com. The signup form sets no cookies.
Pledges and stories
If you take the fragrance-free pledge, we store the first name you type (or nothing, if you leave it blank), the places you picked (work, school, doctor’s office or where you live) and the date. Recent names are shown publicly next to the pledge count, and the number of pledges for each place is shown as a total.
If you send a story to our story wall, we store your story, where it happened, the first name you give (if any) and the date. We read every story before it goes up, and we may shorten it or remove details that could identify someone. We never ask for your email address on these forms.
Neither form sets cookies or stores your IP address. To stop repeat spam, we keep a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address that expires after one hour and is never used again. To take down your pledge or story, email admin@ihateperfume.com.

We link to research papers, product databases and other sites. They open in a new tab and have their own privacy policies.
When this changes
Before we collect anything new, we’ll update this page to say exactly what we collect, why, and how to have it deleted.
