Asking for fragrance-free air shouldn’t mean staring at a blank page. Answer four quick questions and you’ll get a polite, specific letter for your boss, your kid’s school, a clinic before your visit, your landlord, a neighbor or your doctor. Edit it, then copy, email or print it.

Before you send it
- Keep it short and specific. One clear ask is easier to say yes to than a long list.
- Keep a copy and note the date you sent it.
- With a neighbor, start gently. Explain what reaches your space, make one specific request, and give them a chance to respond before you involve the landlord.
- Before a medical visit, send it a few days ahead, and bring a copy in case it didn’t reach the right person.
- At work, read your rights and what to ask for first, and see what JAN suggests a doctor’s note include.
- Attach our one-page fact sheet if it helps make the case, and put up a sign once it’s agreed.
